Vintage 1985 Austin Prod Inc African Hornbill Bust Decor - 1980 Tribal Art
Presenting a mid-century Crested African mask sculpture, designed by Austin prod ; a stylized adaptation of a Guro or Senufo Hornbill headdress from the Ivory coast. Austin productions designers specifically adapted the original, wearable dance masks into stable, tabletop bust statues by setting them permanently onto a metal rod and a weighted, black laminate wooden base. Cast of heavy Durastone (a specialized heavy-grade sculptor's plaster) and then meticulously hand painted or patinatedto resemble wood, bronze, or terracotta.
This piece is part of Austin Prod 1985 "Art of Asia and Africa" archival collection, which replicated museum antiquities for home decor. Austin Prod statues are valued for their mid-century modern and brutalist aesthetic.
