The Plays of Oliver Goldsmith,
Together with The Vicar of Wakefield
Edited by C.E. DOBLE, MA
The Viar of Wakefield;
The story, a portrait of village life, is narrated by Dr. Primrose, the title character, whose family endures many trials—including the loss of most of their money, the seduction of one daughter, the destruction of their home by fire, and the vicar's incarceration—before all is put right in the end.
The Good Natured Man;
A comedy by Oliver Goldsmith was produced in 1768.
It describes the testing and education of the open‐hearted and open‐handed young Honey‐wood, who suffers from excessive generosity and is cured by the experience of being arrested for debt.
She Stoops to Conquer;
A comedy of manners that explores social class, one's place in society, both socially and economically, and its importance in 18th-century England. The characters and their conceptions of these absurd societal rules lead them on a humorous journey in their relationships.
