Fascinating History, Rare Wedding Basket;
In early 1908 John W. Fenton left the Fenton Art Glass Company after a falling out with his brother Frank Fenton. However, he remained on the Fenton board of directors. He had helped found Fenton Art Glass with his brother in 1905.
The Millersburg factory was located in Millersburg, OH. The factory was state of the art for its day and opened in 1909. John was not the best businessman; he was more of a promoter. The factory was in an obscure location, and the company folded in 1911. The company was sold to Samuel Fair and reopened as the Radium Glass Company. This company only lasted one year and closed in 1912.“Millersburg Glass has a metallic look, with multiple colors, and that is the brilliance of it,” Sieverdes said. “There were no two molds the same, and no pieces of glass are alike. The molds were typically broken after the glassware was made.” Millersburg Glass was founded in 1909 by John Fenton.
My Blackberry Wreath pattern wedding basket is simply stunning, the iridescence is beautiful the brass basket, and tongs are the perfect Victorian touch. This piece would make a wonderfully thoughtful gift for any Fenton Glass collector ... or as always, it is a perfect 'me gift.' Thank you, David F., for your help with my research.
